What’s been happening:

In 1940 I began a two-year Forest Ranger course at the Mount Alto branch of Penn State College. On February 24, 1942 I withdrew prior to completing the course and enlisted in the US Coast Guard on August 7th of that year. Three and one-half years later I was honorably discharged on February 7, 1946. After a few months I resumed studies at Penn State and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry on June 6, 1949. Soon thereafter, I began working in tree maintenance operations with the Urban Forestry Division for the City of Cleveland, Ohio. My promotions, in Chronological order were: Tree Warden; District Warden; Horticulturalist; Arborist; and in 1973 I was appointed Commissioner of the Urban Forestry Division. While Commissioner I also served a year as President of the Ohio Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture. I also worked closely with the Greater Cleveland Garden Center, Cultural Gardens, Cleveland Beautiful Committee, Ohio Roadside Council, Rapid Recovery, Cleveland Waterfront Coalition, and the Landmark Commission. After 33 years of service with the City of Cleveland, I retired on January 28, 1983. My work in Urban Forestry continued after my retirement as a Consulting Arborist with the cities of Brecksville, Brooklyn and Parma Heights-all neighboring cities to Cleveland, Ohio.
